Masked..tsk tsk
People wear masks for different occasions. Masks are worn to cover one’s real “being” in a crowded world. Others pretend to be brave to hide fear. Some laugh to conceal pain. Some boast possessions to cover their inner void. Some act as friend to earn trust. But these masks are taken off when the person is alone and has all the freedom to do things as he please. What the person does then would determine his character - he could be a human or a monster.
Derrek, a very good friend of mine, told me last week that his wallet, mobile phone and MacBook were all gone when he woke up that morning. A young man, pretending to be a roommate checked in the day before and looted all the goodies in the room even before the sun rose the following day. He was so upset. He treated the new guy well, welcomed him and toured him around the pad just to make the person feel comfortable with his “new” home. Although he wondered why the new guy didn’t take his stuff out of his bag and didn’t even bother to “customize” his corner of the room that night, Derrek left to give him time and space to “feel at home” and came back by bed time. The next morning, his money and gadgets were all gone. And so was the “new room mate”. And there’s no way he could get his stuffs back. It’s all gone into thin air like *poof!
See how humans could transform into monsters when left alone? Sad but true.
